There is a table in the middle of the room that has the airport layout on it. Students walk around moving airplane models while the others work like its traffic.

Airplane noises are optional. However, your lips will get tired during the problems.

Not to step on any toes here, but, the FAAs table tops are horrible. They make the students walk around with the A/C and in most cases the students have no idea the A/C characteristics or performance.

This one time, well here, I had a C172 make it from Owasso to base in less than a minute....

It's just used to practice phraseology and basic basic sequencing so you're not drowning yourself in the sims and wasting time there.

I agree. It can be a useful tool for seeing the 3rd dimension to the pattern etc. Out instructors told us right up front that the inconsistency in aircraft speeds would be frustrating, but that the table tops are designed primarily to develop phraseology. It is a necessary evil as a stepping stone into the simulators for those with no aviation experience.

Must've been the C172 900 series, with the trijet mod.
