They technically don't have you go over aircraft characteristics until you are nearly done with non-radar. You don't take the test for aircraft characteristics until you have already started radar.

Tower guys get to play with little detailed plane toys, among other things. You'll know your types.

You can always check out the airplane quiz at airliners.net. Look for the link somewhere on the homepage (I think). It's free and is pretty good at helping to build visual identification.

According to the SOP, we're "encouraged" to use the AC type, though it wasn't required on any of the PVs.

I've heard trainees doing traffic calls for a Cessna 130 (C130) because they don't know what a C130 is. It's even funnier watching devs putting in a flight plan for a C130 and putting a speed of 105 kts. Or, hearing devs do a traffic call for a Boeing 763. Sometimes pilots hear this and pick on the controller by asking "Center, whats a 763?"

Though JTOMES and MBALUNDA are corect also, knowledge of a/c types and performances are a must in this job.

Did you see the new briefing from Ethics that bans FAA employees from teaching at a CTI school while employed and requires current people
to resign?

I just signed off on it today.

My guess is briefing tracker...I haven't looked at mine this week so I can't confirm that's what he actually means though.

Yes I meant the sheet in our area that tracks your receipt of notices.... like a construction update or LOA changes.
