Academy Pay (not counting per-diem) and travel reimbursement
 

Ive seen conflicting reports on this.

Is it really $8 an hour? or is it $10 an hour while you are at the academy?

and does that include locality?

also, I heard you get paid .50 per mile of travel money from your home to the academy...

do you get a travel allowance to get back home, and then to yoru new facility?

or is it just to get to your facility from OKC?

I made around $10 an hour while at the academy last year. It may include locality. Can't remember.

Don't remember the milage per diem but they will cost compare between flying and driving and give you the cheapest if you drive.

You get travel from your house to OKC then OKC to your facility.

$10/hr * 80hrs = $800 minus taxes and benefits. Deductions vary person to person.

I believe its academy pay + your facs locality. Example including 14.16% locality.

$20,024 (academy pay including 14.16%) / 12 months = $1,668.66 per month

$1,668.66 per month / 160 hours (40 per week) = $10.42 an hour

Now subtract taxes, tsp, insurance and anything else you opt for, for final amount.

I'm at the academy right now and I'm going to ZKC with the 14.16% locality. Your pay INCLUDES your locality... I'm making $9.74 an hour with locality... so if your facility is the same locality pay as ZKC, then it'll be $9.74 an hour... which equates into roughly $794 every 2 weeks before taxes and benefits (and this is what I'm getting). If your locality is a little higher, then you get a little higher... some of the guys going to ZDC are around $10.25 an hour, I believe. It's not much, but the $90/day per diem more than makes up for it! That's another $11.25 per hour (and it's not taxed)... so you could safely say anywhere between $18-20 per hour after taxes if you include salary and per diem.
