Re: How do you get the most out of your Per diem

If you or someone you know owns a RV, I stayed at a camp ground (full hookup) for less than $300 for the month of RTF, and the rest went in my pocket!

Just wondering how this is going to work for me.

I'm sure they'll explain it, but I'd rather know before hand. How are the travel vouchers actually handled?
You can file your first one 14 days after you get to the Academy, then once a month thereafter. There's no specific timeline to submit your final voucher, as long as it is before your departure date.

If you are paying out of pocket, you simply submit the receipt for your housing to the travel office, sign the paperwork, and then they calculate the reimbursement (food and lodging) for the number of days in the past month. If you use the government card, you don't have to submit a receipt to the travel office, but you still have to file a voucher to get the per diem for meals.

If you live in a tent you're probably not paying rent to anyone. In that case you wouldn't get any of your per diem back.

No, for a more realistic option. Starting in May I will become an OKC housing provider. I will be providing housing exclusively to FAA students! All pets are welcome. And to top it all off, my units will be the closer to the academy than anyone else!

Rates start at just $15 per MONTH. That's right, save yourself over $1,000 a month in per diem. I will have a series of card board boxes lining the road directly across the street from the academy, you can't beat that convience.

PM if you have any questions. Serious Inquiries only.

I went the the corporate housing solutions when I was in OKC a year ago (I think the actual name of the place is Highland Pointe apartments, something like that). It is in Yukon, so about a 20 minute drive from the academy. The place was not on a bus route, but I found two roommates online (guess what site!) and for an 1800 sq. foot 3 bed 2 bath and all utilities it cost each person $22.67/day. we all paid out of pocket and got the full per diem reimbursement, and i have to say that it worked out pretty nice. it was also one of the nicer places after seeing some of the other places people were staying.
