    Evolution of the Scope

Since the beginning of ATC, there have been many different types of scopes used at different facilities. In what order were these introduced? I am pretty sure Center's still utilize the same host computer, but upgraded to DSR in the early 2000's. The newest scopes for Tracons seem to be STARS, but that did not seem to go to far since a few facilities still have ARTS-IIIE scopes. From the tower perspective, ASDE-X seems to be the latest and greatest ground radar.

So this is the list I have, please feel free to add/correct it.

    Center
    DSR
    ERAM

    Tracon
    ARTS-II
    ARTS-IIIE
    MEARTS
    ACD
    STARS
    REHOST

    Tower
    BRITE
    DBRITE
    ASDE-III
    AMASS
    ASDE-X

missing MEARTS (tracon) mid 90s still better than stars and acd/arts3e

stars is a piece of crap, which is why the replacement phase was shut down so quickly.

I think AMASS was an add-on to ASDE-III.

Any idea what was used before ARTS? Here at GFK when I toured the tower, they said they were using a "system" that was used before ARTS was introduced. It looked very, very old.

Yo I am going to let you finish, but the MPN-25 is the greatest system of all time.

Not sure if it was any of those. It had a circular display that was green, but I looked like a piece of junk.

    Re: Evolution of the Scope

Edwards AFB uses REHOST in the tracon and the tower. it's a version of the STARS. how about the ever popular ERAM...people are so stoked to start using it.
