Department of Defense (DOD)

General

Many military bases throughout the U.S. employ civilian air traffic controllers to assist the military air traffic controllers in the day to day operation.  The civilian controllers work side by side the military controllers and are even involved in the military controllers training.  Many of the candidates that are selected for Department of Defense (DOD) positions were former military controllers at that same base.  These positions have great benefits as they are government jobs.  DOD controllers earn relatively high pay but slightly below the national average for air traffic controllers that work for the FAA.

How do I apply with the Department of Defense

Most military air bases employ DOD air traffic controllers.  You must wait until the place you desire has an open announcement for hiring.  Once they have posted an announcement, you may apply if you meet the criteria.
