Torn ACL
Posted: 09-02-2010, 10:10 AM

I completely tore my right ACL in July playing softball and was told by an orthopedic surgeon in Tennessee that surgery was optional, yet recommended. The orthopedist I intend to visit now that I've moved to Missouri does surgeries on Fridays, after which I would be in a non-immobilizing leg brace for a set period of time. What effect would this have on a medical clearance, and how soon would I be able to return to work? I start at the Academy next week, so it would be at least December before I could have it done.

Like with any surgery, there is a recovery time. You would be able to return to work as soon as your surgeon says you can.
