Diabetes Waiver

Diabetes is probably going to be in my future. Both my parents and one of my grandparents have it. I've heard waivers mentioned several times on the site. What do you need to be able to get a waiver?

Not much to it. You just have to be controlled by medications for 3 months, once you get the diabetes. Submit a report to the FAA from your treating doctor.

So, Type 1, Type 2, or anything like that doesn't really matter? Just get on some meds and don't have any problems and you're basically good to go?

Most people get type 2 as they get older. Type 1 (non insulin producing) is usually gotten in childhood. So to answer your question, yes.

That's great. I had always thought that getting the diagnosis would automatically mean early retirement. Thanks.
