Multiple Pneumothoraces (collapsed lung)
Posted: 01-09-2010, 04:20 PM Hey everyone.
Just to start off, I am a 24 yr old Hispanic male in good health measuring 6'5" and about 210 lbs. My question is concerning spontaneous pneumothoraces (SP). While in high school (about age 15), I suffered my first SP. I was taken to my doctor where I was administered oxygen and the SP was let to basically heal itself. A couple years later I suffered another SP but to my other lung. Unlike the first, this one was more severe and required a few days of being hospitalized with a chest tube applying negative pressure to remove the air from the cavity and "re-inflate" my lung. Since then I have not suffered any such injuries but the occurrences have left me concerned about being able to pass my medical, when the time comes. Also since then, I have passed a first class medical for a student pilot certificate. Do I have anything to worry about? Should I have specific paperwork, other than medical records, ready for when the time comes to get my medical? Any insight or similar stories would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance. -Jon CTI Grad from ERAU May 2009 AT-SAT 94 Applied to CTI & PUBNAT 8 |

Posted: 01-12-2010, 10:46 AM You need to be able to pass a second class medical for ATC. You have already passed a first class, so you should be fine.
