Hearing issues
Posted: 01-12-2010, 06:12 PM

Hello. I am 26 and have worn hearing aids for 20 years. I have a mild to moderate hearing loss, meaning I have 70-80% hearing in both ears. Nothing bad. I can hold a normal conversation without the aids at normal volumes, face to face or otherwise. My spoken speech is fine. I have obtained 3 first class medicals over the years for flying. I just wear my aids under my David Clarks when flying and it's never been an issue.

Would my disability preclude me from ATC employment?

I'm not sure why this was moved. It's not a question of can I get a medical, I wanted to hear more from the grunts in the trenches and if they have any experience working with anyone in my situation. I would like some real-world examples.

But I look forward to chatting with the flight surgeon nonetheless!

It might. I know that they do a more through exam with hearing. Since you have no problems with hearing aids, it might be waived. Sorry but I cant give you a better answer.
