Hearing issues
Posted: 01-12-2010, 06:12 PM Hello. I am 26 and have worn hearing aids for 20 years. I have a mild to moderate hearing loss, meaning I have 70-80% hearing in both ears. Nothing bad. I can hold a normal conversation without the aids at normal volumes, face to face or otherwise. My spoken speech is fine. I have obtained 3 first class medicals over the years for flying. I just wear my aids under my David Clarks when flying and it's never been an issue.
Would my disability preclude me from ATC employment? |

Re: Hearing issues
Posted: 01-12-2010, 07:03 PM I'm not sure why this was moved. It's not a question of can I get a medical, I wanted to hear more from the grunts in the trenches and if they have any experience working with anyone in my situation. I would like some real-world examples.
But I look forward to chatting with the flight surgeon nonetheless! |

Re: Hearing issues
Posted: 01-13-2010, 11:56 AM It might. I know that they do a more through exam with hearing. Since you have no problems with hearing aids, it might be waived. Sorry but I cant give you a better answer.
