Sleep issues
Posted: 01-19-2010, 05:47 AM Over the last few years I have developed some sleep issues. My main problem is what I like to call "alarm clock anxiety". When I'm off or working night shifts (and can sleep in) I sleep just fine. When I quick turn or need to wake up for an early shift I get all spun up and can't sleep. I get the "If I just fall asleep now I'll get xxx hours of sleep." mantra running through my head and I'm awake all night. It's starting to cost me more sick leave than I'd like.
My questions are these: With the above in mind it has been suggested I try the medication Xanax (Alprazolam) to relieve my anxiety like symptoms. How will this affect my medical? Can I even tell my employer about my sleep woes? Can I legally work if I take this medication the night before a day shift? |

Re: Sleep issues
Posted: 01-19-2010, 09:24 AM No, any use of xanax for treatment of anxiety is dysqualifying. Talk to you AME/Doctor about approved drugs for shift work sleep disorder.
