Termination from the FAA
Posted: 08-28-2010, 07:01 PM

Hi,

I am a training failure, (at a level 12 TRACON) my training was terminated for non disciplinary reasons after failing to certify on my first radar sector. I have been informed that I will be terminated from the FAA altogether without the opportunity to transfer to a lower level facility, (which I don't necessarily agree with but seems there's little I can do.) I have done some contacting of other facilities on my own and have found a facility that said they would be willing to pick me up if the facility manager where I am working would allow it. I was just wondering what your thoughts would be on this matter? Anything I can really do or should be doing that I am not already? Thank you for any input. -

What does your current facility manager say? Will he/she allow it?

Better yet, what does your NATCA facility representative have to say? That should be your first move.

I'll be honest and say that I am not a "dues paying" NATCA member. As such I have noticed that pretty much everyone, except for my area rep, has been reluctant to really work with me or give me the time of day (which doesn't seem to me to be the best way to make people who aren't members want to be at all.) Perhaps I should have joined right from the get go but hind sight is always 20-20 I guess and thats a whole other issue itself. The facility rep pretty much just said good for you and to be sure to include it in my final response letter (which I did.) As for the facility manager's willingness to allow this I have no idea, but will get to speak with him one last time I suppose before he makes his final decision.

Bottom line seems to be it's all up to him regardless of anything else, I would hope if it's not much off his back that he would just say yeah sure and give me the go ahead but who knows. I don't like the idea of someone who I hardly know having the power to make a big decision like this with regards to the rest of my life but I guess thats the way it goes in the FAA, so just hoping for a miracle at this point.

First things first ... try and get yourself transferred to a lower level facility. And then we strongly recommend you join NATCA. We guarantee it will be a great decision for your career and your life. You will become part of an incredible, tight-knit family that will always be there for you and support you.

Stay in touch and please let me know how I can help when you're ready to consider NATCA.

Very best of luck.
