Returning to the FAA
Posted: 03-18-2010, 11:48 AM Hi All. Well I am currently attempting to try to be rehired by the FAA as a controller. I attended the CCBC CTI program from 5/2004 through 8/2005 and was originally hired by ZMA in 7/2006.....just after the new contract was implemented.
As you can imagine, having my pay cut drastically from what I had anticipated making made living in Miami extremely difficult. After attempting to survive for about a year, and with no contract resolution in sight, I was forced to resign simply because I could not afford to continue to live in Miami on 38k a year. Fast forward 3 years later, I am now attempting to return to the profession I love. Back in PA, I am quite better off financially now (doesn't cause nearly as much to live in central pa as I does southern Florida) and want to do whatever it takes to get back. I have applied both through the CTO (I have one from the CTI program at Beaver) and the Public announcements as well as the reinstatement announcements. So far, I haven't had any luck; however I am currently once again on the list for PA and OH off the last CTO announcement so fingers crossed. What I am looking for is any advice on what I can possibly do to try to get back in the game. I hear alot of people call facilities to try to get in the door. Is that really advisable or is that do nothing more than annoy people? Is there anyone in particular I should try to contact at OKC or the facilities I'm trying to get rehired? Anything in particular I should say/ask/tell them? Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thank you in advance. |

Re: Returning to the FAA
Posted: 03-20-2010, 01:40 AM Since you were never certified at an FAA facility I strongly doubt that you would qualify under the Re-hire program. I can understand the pay issue, I've watched several of our young developmentals resign because they couldn't afford to live on the pay.
Hopefully you'll get the call for a job soon, Good Luck. |

Re: Returning to the FAA
Posted: 03-20-2010, 04:35 AM yes, CPC opens a lot of avenues. however, for me when i resigned i was only concerned with my age. i got my 2152 and froze my age (was 33 when i resigned) and then got re-hired. same white book crap that you resigned/quit for is why i resigned.

Re: Returning to the FAA

Re: Returning to the FAA

Was it a CTO at an FAA Facility, if not the I'm fairly sure that the FAA won't recognize it, but stranger things have happened. To be honest I have never failed to be surprised by some of the things that the FAA has done when it comes to the hiring process. I hope you can get re-hired, being a controller had been the best career that I have had, hence why I'm retired and working in Afghanistan as a controller. |
