2010 Federal Pay Raise - House Passes 2% Increase

« Previous Article Viewed 444 Times Next Article »
UPDATE (July 17, 2009): The House passed legislation on July 16 that includes a 2 percent pay raise for federal employees.

Last week, the House and Senate Appropriations Committees approved a different increase for the 2010 federal pay raise for civilian employees -- both much lower than the pay raise in 2009 of 3.9 percent.

The House committee approved a 2 percent hike (coinciding with President Obama's recommendation earlier this year), while the Senate committee passed a 2.9 percent increase for next year.

This difference between the Senate and House committees on the 2010 federal pay raise will likely further complicate the process to determining salaries for federal workers.

Each legislative branch has budget resolutions in place to achieve pay parity with the military -- and the 2010 Defense Authorization bill last month included a 3.4 percent pay increase for service members.

Setting the federal employee pay raise is a long process, and the actual 2010 pay increase figures -- with their locality adjustments -- won't likely be issued until December.
