Dude took off from my former home airport in Georgetown. Everybody knows everybody there... I'm wondering if any of them saw some warning signs. In any case, bad publicity for GA at a time when they don't need it. |

I heard on the news today that they were going to try and make it where ALL aircraft have to file a flight plan. Don't really know the details, but I hope that doesn't come to pass. They would pretty much do away with the "jump in and go" and I don't think it would make a difference bc if that was the rule then all the guy had to do was file a plan from GTU-HYI that would go right over the city and he could crash before they could realize it and respond. |

Re: Plane crashes into building in Austin, Texas
Posted: 02-21-2010, 12:45 AM Good point. I think there'll be noise about it for a while as people overestimate the danger of GA, and it'll eventually die back down. There's a reason that "the terrorists" haven't used single engines to go after buildings so far... they don't do anything. Look at what happened when that Yankee nailed a building in Manhattan; it was barely worse than a car running into it.
Anyway, AOPA has tremendous clout to keep GA generally unfettered... which is a good thing. |

Posted: 02-21-2010, 10:16 AM It's like ATC, people think controllers are just the people in the tower with the most stressful job in the world that no one is capable of handling.
