Facility Swap

I just found out that I was selected for Cleveland Center ZOA, and I am waiting on an interview. My facility of choice is Indy Center ZID, basically because it is closer to home. How do I go about trying to switch from ZOA to ZID? Can I do this before OK City? Or while I'm at the academy? Do I have to wait until I'm a CPC at ZOA? I have no clue on how the facility swaps work, so any info would be greatly appreciated!!!

Swaps before OKC are rare because you have to find someone else going to the other facility. Its not easy but you might find someone via this website. If you want to try to get it done then I would call your HR contact, they might be able to help.

ONce you are at the facility it is also rare to get a swap prior to CPC. Once you are a CPC then you can just ERR (request a transfer, i.e. no swap) or try to find a swap.

You probably shouldn't have selected OH, but you can't take it back now.

Send an email to your hr explaining why you need a swap. That's what i did and i was swapped prior to okc.

Wow, yeah, I doubt ^ this will work... I don't think your HR rep was/is very fond of you. Or maybe they were having a bad day. I would go the HR route, redirects come up all the time, your problem will be getting to the specific facility without a direct person that wants to swap with you...

Yeah redirects FAA initiated happen all the time. Redirects selectee initiated happen a lot less than you think.

Anything is possible, I worked a redirect from AZ terminal to ZJX enroute.

I went through the District Managers. I talked to the ZJX DM told him my situation and on my behalf he called the AZ DM to ask if he could release me. Once he approved it. The ZJX DM called HR told them to send me his way.

HR called me, sent me some paperwork to fill out and it was done. All this took 1 day.

I scheduled my interview today, which is going to be at ZID because it is closer than ZOB.

So should I just ask the HR lady that's interviewing me about swapping, or do I need to call Cleveland?
