graduated ERAU, but CTI unfinished...
Posted: 07-19-2012, 12:31 PM Hello. I'm writing because I couldn't find information pertinent to my situation. I took four of the five ATC courses at Embry-Riddle but I did not stay to take the last one because it would have delayed my graduation. I already took the standardized multiple-choice ATC exam and scored very high. A few years have passed, and I would like to work as an air traffic controller. How can I get recommended to the FAA academy with my Collegiate Training Initiative unfinished?
I have done some research and the schools I have asked say I must graduate from them with their degree to be able to finish the CTI and get into the academy. I have a problem with that because I already have a bachelor's, I need neither an associate's degree nor a master's, nor do I want to take and pay for ten+ college courses just to take the last ATC class and get recommended to the academy. I hope that with your help, dear readers, I will find a way into the ATC academy without having to get an entire extra college degree! |

Re: graduated ERAU, but CTI unfinished...
Posted: 07-19-2012, 01:09 PM You probably don't want to hear this....Three ways to get hired.
Join the military for atc, have them train you, put in you years, and apply through VRA bid. Go to CTI school. You have to go back to school to finish your CTI so your school will recommend you. There is no way around this. The FAA does not care about BS degrees. They only care that you have completed a CTI program and recommended. Apply under an off the street bid, if they ever come out with another one. That is unlikely. |

Posted: 07-19-2012, 01:33 PM You will have to go back to ERAU to finish the last class and have the university recommend you. I went through the EXACT same thing...I graduated from Purdue in 2006 with a Bachelors, and went back in 2010 to finish the last CTI course I needed...got selected this March for ZID.

Posted: 07-19-2012, 03:52 PM Are you saying they wouldn't let you enroll as a part time student just to finish that last class? Seems kinda weird to me.
If for whatever reason you're not near ERAU's campuses, you could look into going the community college CTI route and seeing if they would let you transfer your coursework from ERAU in. You might end up needing to take a semester's worth of classes, but who knows. |
