Federal Contract Tower, as in Midwest ATC service, RVA, SERCO etc. Are you new to the field? It's a love/hate program. NATCA hates it, but tower controllers and retirees find it an acceptable way to make a living(usually). They have the worst benefits I've ever seen, the worst facilities in many cases, and alot of guys work everyday alone, for the entire shift come hell or high water. But it beats flipping burgers and working at wally world. For tower-only guys, the rumors of the FAA splitting facilities would be great because we might have a shot at working what we love. But in light of the fact that taking an FAA job would require an immediate $20,000 pay cut, us with families gotta say FU FAA! I really hope the DOL is actually working on this. I just might be able to bank enough money to actually retire, someday, maybe, I MIGHT.
