Terminal Vs. En route
Posted: 08-24-2008, 10:07 PM Which one do you prefer? Having done both, I prefer terminal. They have more rules to use to get your job done, and it appears they get more support from management than en-route does. I'm excluding NY from this because both the tracon and center are exempt from "rules" because they follow their own.....lol... That damn 5 mile range bubble is your main rule and they enforce it!

Re: Terminal Vs. En route
Posted: 08-24-2008, 10:20 PM terminal. i quit the center when i just needed 2 more R-sides. didn't even regret it for a second. i was even on the old scale and still bounced. absolutely hated the center. couldn't see myself throwing away 10 years of tower experience to sit in a center for 20 years.
just my personal opinion. |

Re: Terminal Vs. En route
Posted: 08-25-2008, 12:24 PM also it takes sooo long to get checked out in a center where you are making halfway decent money.

Re: Terminal Vs. En route
Posted: 08-25-2008, 03:51 PM Question about en route: Is there only one physical building/facility for each center? For instance, do all of the controllers who work at "Atlanta center" all work out of the same building located in the city of Atlanta? Or are there other physical locations?
Tks. |

Re: Terminal Vs. En route
Posted: 08-25-2008, 03:56 PM Centers....i believe are all in the same building...i haven't been to them all, but I have been to a few and it was all in the same building. Centers do not have to be located in the city that they service...a lot of centers are located outside the city.

Re: Terminal Vs. En route
Posted: 08-25-2008, 05:12 PM I like center as it encompasses usually both functions with doing approaches to satellite airports, doing sequencing where you have some fudge room, much better sequencing for 10, 20, 30 miles in trail then sequencing for 3 mile finals. But, it also depends what center you are in, I'm sure some of the sectors at some centers could get boring with just overflights etc. Personally, I have the same respect for either route, we all deal with the same BS everyday.

ALL the controllers were in the same building, but not ALL the controllers were in the same room. The oceanic sectors were in a completely different room. Would only take a minute to walk to their area but it was still segregated some. Not sure why that is. Possibly the different systems they use from domestic sectors. I think the centers are located somewhere other than where they are named because of security reasons from the cold war. We didn't want Russia to know where our centers were at. Could be rumor, I don't know. |
