"Dress" Code
Posted: 06-28-2009, 03:01 PM

Actually my question is more about hair. Does the FAA have regulations about how hair is worn? I mean, I have been in the NAVY for a years and have been really restricted in what I can do with my hair. Just kinda wondering if I can expect more of that with a position in the FAA. I don't want to dye my hair purple, but I kinda don't want anyone telling me I can't. And yes I would still take a job if they did.

As far as I know there aren't really any restrictions on hair, I am in OKC now and have seen all kinds of different hair cuts. the big thing here is wearing "business" clothes.

I don't believe there is any provisions on hair. There was one guy I heard of that hasn't shaved since Sept '06 in protest to the imposed work rules.

However, if you're a new hire, I would suggest dressing properly and keeping hair and hygiene in a normal and respectful manner, and nothing over the top. Don't give management a reason to dislike you, because in essence, they can fire you for anything they want if you aren't CPC. Getting through one-year probationary period will make it harder to fire you, but all they have to do is not check you out and boom, you're done.

Once you're CPC, do whatever the heck you want with your hair.

Just my recommendation.

Good advice by BCBC, until you have completed your probationary time don't give management an excuse to fire you, and as mentioned I would say keeping a low profile until you are certified is not a bad idea.

But to answer your question there are no dress codes in regard to hair length, style, or color.

I appreciate the answers and advice. I truly would not go crazy while I was in a probationary status, and do prefer to be a little conservative with my hair. But you know how you just wanna do stuff because people are telling you that you can't? I guess that's me right now, lol. Thanks everyone!!
