FDIO Question
Posted: 12-06-2009, 08:24 PM

Can someone help me out with this. Where can I go to online that will provide info about the FDIO. I have knowledge about a few FDIO fields we use but is there anywhere online that I can go to get the complete list. Thanks.

edit:
You can find the info here:

I try not to sound like a noob to much but what the heck does FIDO stand for? I looked searched the 7110.65, AIM, Pilot/Controller Glossary, and googled it and came up blank.

We have some people call it the "Fa Dio". I've always known them as FIDO and it took me a while to figure out what the frick they were talking about. They think I'm weird when I say FIDO. Even the newbs coming in have been brainwashed to say Fa Dio and think I am making stuff up, even when they teach it as FIDO at the Academy (when I was there).

i don't know of a link with all that information readily available online. we have a card sitting next to the fa-dio (lol) at work as a cheat sheet. off the top of my head i come up with:

field # - field

1 - message type (FP, SR, RS, AM, etc)
2 - CID/ACID (callsign, beacon, CID)
3 - TYP/AC type (B752, H/B52, C172/A, etc)
4 - BCN/beacon code
5 - SPD/AC speed (210, 450, M.78, etc)
6 - FIX/coordination fix (dept fix, posted fix, previous fix, etc)
7 - TIM/time (P-time, D-time, E-time)
8 - ALT/assigned altitude
9 - RAL/requested altitude
10 - RTE/route of flight (fix.route.fix..fix.etc)
11 - RMK/remarks

there are more fields but these are the common ones. i always get field 8 and 9 mixed up so if i'm wrong then my bad. i just use the "RAL" and "ALT" when dealing with altitudes.

At least when they layed out the keyboard they used the Qwerty vs. what they used for the ARTS keyboard.

Haha, so true. I'm so used to the QWERTY keyboard, typing on the ARTS keypad makes it look like I don't even know the alphabet.
