Anything positive to say about N90?!
Posted: 01-21-2010, 01:13 AM I'm heading to N90 in a week and for the 3 months I've been here in OKC when anyone heard where I'm assigned I got the "I'm sorry" look or the "man, good luck with that" comment.

I'm sorry man. Good luck with that. Seriously though, I don't know what everybody's talking about. It' seemed like a good place to work on Pushing Tin.

Posted: 01-21-2010, 09:12 AM oh wow time went by quick didnt it? i dont know what to tell you dude, i've heard this and that, hopefully its just an exaggeration and its really not that bad....guess you will be the 1st to let us know....ive noticed we dont really get a lot of NY controllers on these forums, we get a lot from other states but NY/NJ seem to be verryyy quiet....i know lisraref is from ny, mjohn47 is from ny, born2control is another one but i dont know anyone else, the 1st 2 are already out of the academy and born2control i think is already there or headed there....

Posted: 01-21-2010, 11:32 AM Try to get into the Liberty area and avoid Newark at all costs. I worked at ZDC for a while and fed them. EWR and LGA sectors are nuts. Liberty sector seemed way easier. I've never been there though so that's the best I can tell you. The good news is that you're gonna like your paychecks.

Go in with your head held high and give it 110%. Don't go out and party the night before you have to go in and train because you'll need that head of yours clear and ready. |

Posted: 01-21-2010, 03:06 PM Hopefully the morale of your trainers is good, and the training program is geared towards training lesser experienced trainees. They used to only take experienced controllers for a reason, but you probably knew that.

Re: Anything positive to say about N90?!
Posted: 01-21-2010, 07:49 PM The Islip area is slower...probably on a par with most medium density facilities. Liberty is not like any approach control anywhere...they work departures only and the entire pref route structure for the northeastern US is predicated on avoiding their airspace-I'm not making that up. You don't want to go there. If I had a choice I think I'd want to go to JFK. Why not challenge yourself? Don't let the hype scare you. If they're sending you to N90 they must think you've got potential. And I have a hunch that the failure rate is going to drop now that we have a contract.
Oh yeah, one last thing...if you can make it there you'll make it anywhere...I'm not kidding. Good luck. |

Posted: 01-21-2010, 10:23 PM Heh. Isn't that the one described as a shi--- uh, a land of fun and sunshine in the GQ article?
Ah, well. A guy who's smart enough to pick the coolest av in the world has gotta be smart enough to cut it there. Good luck man. And congratulations on getting in finally. |
