Another stroke of brillance from the federal government. Someone retires, don't worry we'll have a replacement for you in 2-5 years.

However, we all know that ATC staffing across the country was rapidly decreasing, and at one point there were NO trainees in the pipeline. Congress had to force the FAA to come up with a hiring plan that would at least appear to fill the voids. However, even with accelerated hiring, the numbers are still below what they were 5-6 years ago. The FAA has not replaced all the ATC vacancies. Ratchet forward to today, and we still find excessive overtime, people still not getting leave, and 1/4 to 1/3 of the ATC workforce are trainees. So, from my point of view, the FAA needs to finish what they started with hiring. Finish the training of those in the system, raise the number of CPCs to a reasonable number, and then go back to other ways (not necessarily the old way) of hiring for attrition that will allow a 10-15% trainee load. Just my humble opinion. . |

Re: Newly proposed budget freeze
Posted: 03-22-2010, 11:05 PM At first I thought, if I were Superman, a perfect secret identity would be "Clark Kent, Dentist," because you could save money on tooth X-rays. But then I thought, if a patient said, "How's my back tooth?" and you just looked at it with your X-ray vision and said, "Oh it's okay," then the patient would probably say, "Aren't you going to take an X-ray, stupid?" and you'd say, "Aw
![]() ![]() ![]() you, get outta here," and then he probably wouldn't even pay his bill. |
