I don't suppose you Obama bashers realize that we are working under Bush's last budget right now? So, I guess, to answer the question, "when can we stop bashing Bush?" I'd have to answer "after we see what happens under Obama's first budget." Also, this freeze may be a blessing in disguise for all current and hopeful ATCers. Why is that, you ask? Because, no money=no NexGen=no contracting out/eliminating FAA controller jobs.

I thought it was interesting that some depts will see cuts and others will see increases. Maybe like increased spending of social security funds because they are behind in blowing all of the money if they want the process to completely fail before the next generation will need it. I don't see how it's really going to save any money if they are just diverting funds....again. I mean why not, it worked so well the first time.

I agree that Bush's budget was brutal...lots of waste, but honestly have you looked at Obamas budget lately? You do realize that Obamas 2010 budget is about 3.6 Trillion don't you? It sure is easy to blame someone when soemthing goes wrong.

No, once a budget is passed and signed into law, the President cannot "cut" that budget. The most he can do is to make a budget submission for the next fiscal year that must be debated and voted on by Congress.

However, once money is received by an agency, it CAN be redirected unless it is specifically allocated (called a "line item") by the law. That is how new hiring and training are impacted.

Nope. The latest budget (FY2010) was formulated, passed, and signed into law just shortly before Christmas, 2009. It is not a legacy of the Bush administration, but wholly a product of a Democratic controlled Congress and Presidency. Including all it's positives and negatives.

The Obama administration submitted it's budget proposals in April 2009, and that was the starting point for the current (FY2010) budget.

Dude, seriously you need to get off the George Bush kick. He was bumbling idiot.... but hes been gone more than a year now. Barack needs to own the chaos hes caused with the out of control unprecedented spending. And he HAS in Virginia, New Jersey, and MASSACHUSETTS for godsake. If you kool-aid drinkers dont get the message after that, than its going to be an uglllllyyy mid term election for Dems.

I heard this on the news this morning...I need to do more research into it, but this is most likely will NOT effect the FAA. It is more of a trimming from some more wasteful programs.

Hey Dale, I'm sorry if Obama's first budget, signed into law a whole month ago, hasn't completely turned around the economy yet. Maybe it might take another month or two. Seriously, do you even read what you're posting? We have been under the last Bush budget for all but 1 month of Obama's administration. I understand that a lot of people have their reasons for disliking this guy. But the previous guy made this mess. I hope, for the sake of this country, that Obama can get it straightened out. As it stands right now, the CBO projects the deficit going from 1.75 trillion to 500 billion over the next 3 years. Do you know why? Because the Bush tax cuts expire. No Bush tax cuts plus no Bush war in Iraq=no gigantic deficit. Oh yeah, without Bushes phony war in Iraq, we might have actually been done in Afghanistan by now. Talk to the military on this board who are fighting for the same ground they won 6 years ago. Then blame Obama for that.
