Re: Newly proposed budget freeze

If this is Bush's war then why did Obama approve more troops to enter Afghanistan/Pakistan instead of slowly bringing down troop counts like he campaigned? From the looks of it, it seems like Obama is just continuing what Bush did. Sending more troops, spending like crazy, expanding gov. jobs, skyrocketing the deficit...

Wow can?t believe how political an ATC website is. The cuts are only in discretionary spending so they should not affect the FAA too much. I don?t know if you remember a 750 billion stimulus package getting passed about 10 months ago; but that is set to be used to through 2014. So it is easy for President Obama to say he is freezing discretionary spending, he already has 750 billion set aside to spend on whatever he wants. As for the Budget and whose fault it is, I am no Bush supporter but technically it hasn?t been Bush?s since 2005. The Democrats took over the House and the Senate in 2006 and decided what money is allowed to be spent. So really this is Harry Reid?s and Nancy Pelosi?s budget. Just my 2 cents from an Independents perspective.

Remember Congress holds the purse the President just signs the checks. (and China cashes them)

And, the cost of the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan since 2001 is $981 billion. That's only slightly higher than the $760 billion our fearless leader tacked on us with one swift signature that only took 1 minute. COSTOFWAR.COM - The Cost of War

Late edit: Just saw a segment on ABC news regarding this plan. Number 1 on the list of groups to be affected.....Air Traffic Control. Not the the FAA, or DOT, ATC!!!

RDRunner you are correct.

I stand corrected this could very well impact ATC.

Direct quote out of the NY Times:
"The freeze would cover the agencies and programs for which Congress allocates specific budgets each year, including air traffic control, farm subsidies, education, nutrition and national parks."

Seems like all the news agencies are reporting ATC as the first thing to be effected.

i dont think that translates into hiring less people. they still need what they need.... perhaps they will have to trim the manager ranks though...

That's my hope. ZBWer kept me optimistic with his no NextGen theory.

We'll see how that budget looks once we get aluminum showers from the cuts. As it is, I'm not planning on working until I'm about five years away from mandatory retirements.

I understand that a lot of people have their reasons for disliking this guy. But the previous guy made this mess. I hope, for the sake of this country, that Obama can get it straightened out. As it stands right now, the CBO projects the deficit going from 1.75 trillion to 500 billion over the next 3 years. Do you know why? Because the Bush tax cuts expire. No Bush tax cuts plus no Bush war in Iraq=no gigantic deficit. Oh yeah, without Bushes phony war in Iraq, we might have actually been done in Afghanistan by now. Talk to the military on this board who are fighting for the same ground they won 6 years ago. Then blame Obama for that.
Who said anything about turning the economy around? I sure didn't. And neither did you in your previous post.

I was responding to the statement that YOU made about the current budget.

That is what I commented on, and nothing more. No opinion about either Bush, nor Obama policies. I know what I was responding to, and was very careful in the way I wrote it. It seems that it is you who have a problem correlating what is written with what the subject matter happens to be.

Point of FACT is that we are currently NOT under a Bush budget. An Obama budget for the FAA was passed into law in December. No discussion on Obama's, Bush's or any other budget's impacts.

@ Bold...as someone said...adios Next Gen. That whole idea is good in theory but counter productive to how the human mind functions AND stays active at the same time. At least once a week in chicago you hear of an accident where someone let the GPS do the thinking for them.

They need to can the idea all together.

Gonna wait to see the whole plan, from what i hear they will just freeze the current budgets for three years most of these programs just got 4-7% increase so it is really a minimal for this year. Also what ever a president says doesn't mean anything, he still needs to get the vote form the house and senate. Unless he uses his executive power. Politics and religion ruin everything...

Either president is just a finger to point at.

Trimming manager ranks? Heh, if anything there will be a higher manager to controller ratio. (at my last facility there were 6 supervisors per controller)The american way is to take care of the top 1% of money makers and other countries, while we forget about ourselves. Doesn't look good.
