Newly proposed budget freeze
Posted: 01-25-2010, 08:41 PM

So, our genious president is about to announce a 3 year federal budget freeze.

Guess what agency will be affected by this? You guessed it, Transportation, among others, of course. Maybe he shouldn't have spent 750 billion for a jobs bill that didn't even make a dent in unemployment.

Bush made him do it, while Cheney watched from a dark corner.

Luckily for air traffic controllers, our pay isn't based off of anything that the President proposes...the only thing he can change at this point is if we are going to get a locality increase.

Our contract guarantees the pay bands will move up in 2011 and 2012 and that if you are fully certified at the facility you will be moved to the bottom of the new band or receive a 3% pay increase, whichever is greater.

If you are not fully certified, you will still get a 3% annual pay increase in 2011 and 2012.

What sucks is this is probably another stalement for improving our air traffic system....we've been stuck for the last handful of years on a continuing resolution.

Right, but he can cut the budget and reduce the amount of people entering training. If controllers think they are short staffed now, wait until he won't provide the money to bring in new one's.

I'm not too sure how this could effect us too much, but I just don't see any way the annoucement could be a good thing for the FAA.

Yeah, I find it comical that blame continues to be placed on the Bush admin. Yeah, they sucked, but it's been a year, when will this admin take responsibility for what they do?

I thought it was interesting that some depts will see cuts and others will see increases. Maybe like increased spending of social security funds because they are behind in blowing all of the money if they want the process to completely fail before the next generation will need it. I don't see how it's really going to save any money if they are just diverting funds....again. I mean why not, it worked so well the first time.

Says here that Obama wants to freeze discretionary spending for 3 years. The word discretionary probably wouldn't fall entirely on the FAA, I hope.
