Re: Chicago Tower
I work at PHX right now in the US Airways Ramp Tower and spend most of my day listening to GC.
Monsoons are a blast, let me tell ya. Fortunately it doesn't seem to get too busy as far as LC is concerned. When the storms move over the airport the pilots typically refuse to depart. Once there's a small hole in the clouds, Southwest usually leads the charge to get the departures going. They've always been the pathfinders after the storms. Nothing beats watching the monsoons roll in though! Unfortunately this year it's been very slow. It's too cool to see those huge thunderheads rolling straight towards you, lightning and all.
From what I understand, the most challenging part of your day working at PHX Tower will be the morning departure banks. We have a period of about three hours where we have about 30 in bounds and 30 out bounds all at once. It may not sound like a lot, but try working it! They usually split north ground into a departures frequency and an arrivals frequency.
