Re: military to civlian atc job ... yes or no
Posted: 03-16-2010, 10:35 PM Not to mention how old is this cat? If you are 30, dont get out. Under that... every year under that makes it more and more lucrative to get the

Re: military to civlian atc job ... yes or no
Posted: 03-20-2010, 07:18 PM A huge thank you to all of you!!!!! I never expected such a wonderful response. I am 29, no family, dual rated, and have private pilots and bs degree (not really relevant in our case ref faa job but it is what it is)... I have applied twice for pilot school and ots keeps saying no. My thoughts on staying in are to go pilot and retire an officer. I am just scared at the thought of getting out now with the hiring freeze

Re: military to civlian atc job ... yes or no
Posted: 03-20-2010, 10:04 PM 29 ehhhhhhhhhhhhhh iffy but I'd say gor for it and pressure (I mean put pressure on getting a TOL before 31) put no preference and move where they tell you. Not having a family still you should have no qualms about not caring where they put you. Transfer is always doable a few years after your first fac.
I don't think I can stress the "not caring where you end up, just GET IN to the faa" part... Don't end up like 80% of the people trying to get hired because they want to be close their girlfriend/boyfriend/friends/cemetery they want to buried at/cool looking tree. Also: while your waiting highly suggest contract job in the AOR... Or use your gi bill to get ifr rated if your not already. Just don't twiddle your thumbs while waiting... Money is good overseas and not as shitty of a time as people think. |

Re: military to civlian atc job ... yes or no
Posted: 03-21-2010, 02:20 AM if you have no family get out and go to school or go overseas, worst case you dont get picked up and maybe you can become an officer in the military.
highly unlikely you dont get a tol before you turn 31, esp if you are not picky. Your experience will get you picked up before ots and cti. Just pick two states in need and with a lot of facility choices. IMO, if your thinking about getting out, 90k over 6 six isn't going to be the difference maker. You have to really like the AF to stay in if you aren't hurting for the re up bonus. |

Re: military to civlian atc job ... yes or no
Posted: 03-23-2010, 10:27 AM I'm confused... how would the OP just get out? Doesn't he have one of those inflexible enlistment contracts?
