Airline pilot to ATC..

DIESEL Newcomer

I know there are a few of you on here that made the switch. My question to you is are you happy with your decision or are you having regrets? How has you quality of life changed-improved, obviously being home every night is probably the biggest thing.

I'm a furloughed pilot, but was recently recalled back to work. I also have my tol and am still planning on going to the academy whenever they decide to call or start classes again, but I just wanted to hear from someone else who has already made the switch and if there happy with it.

more then happy with the decision. dont have to worry about furlough, you're home every day, you'll have a retirement, there is a long list of things.

i'm guessing comair??? i know they just recalled a few

Haven't thought twice about it (I was a Part 135 citation/lear pilot). Best decision I ever made. Job security, good pay, good people and a helluva lot of fun!!

I was a Comair furlough and made the switch; best thing that ever happened to me. They pay is better, I'm home every night, good vacation, holiday pay, night and sunday differential, great retirement, good people, challenging job, etc.

I still miss flying but soon I'll be able to afford to fly for fun and I'm really looking forward to that. I've only been in ATC since last Oct. but so far, no regrets.

I know a pilot who use to fly for OH and now is in ATC. He doesn't regret it one bit. What facility is your TOL for? And maybe i'll talk to you if you fly into CVG! I'm training there.

MarkV glad your happy with your move and doing well that's great. There is a bunch of s*** going on right now, I'm not sure if you keep up to date on whats going on. but there closing down jfk sept. 1st and opening a base in dtw due to the mesa flying that delta got rid of because of there bankruptcy.

Hey stl2cvg i'll talk to you on the radios at some point but i drive under your tower every morning heading to the training facility over be the maintenance hangar..ha.. One Hell of a storm this afternoon don't ya think, if you were working bet you were a little busy, wind-sheer must have been going off like crazy and i saw a few go missed...

Yea I was recalled but turned it down. I'm one of the few resignations. Its just not worth it to me. I loved the job...hated the career. With ATC, I really like the job, and love the career. Plus I can still fly on the side. I loved flight instructing and can't wait to get back into it on the weekends.

Well got the call from MG out of the blue a few weeks ago for a class on September 2nd.. Needless to say i think i had my last landing in the CRJ today!!! Looking forward to the change..
