CTI Student - Military good or bad idea?
Posted: 06-01-2011, 04:26 PM

I've been thinking about things lately and It's brought up some questions in my mind. I graduate from CTI in August, having to wait until September-October to take the AT-SAT and having to wait until March to be on the hiring panel. With all of this in mind I've been wondering on another route. I almost joined the Air Force out of high school and was wondering what would happen if I did that after I graduated? What if I was selected in a panel next year while in the AF, what would happen?

Is your CTI degree a four year degree? If so than the military might not be a bad route to take as at least you are getting something for what you paid for..officership.

Sorry you paid all that money and have to wait like the rest of us did.... in any case... the military is a good experience for most..Semper Fi... but just remember the other team does shoot back at you despite what your recruiter tells you.

as for your question... once your in.. your in.. they are not letting you out to follow your dreams.

If you sign up for the AF and get selected you ain't working for the FAA. You need to commit to one or the other but I would do what you think suits you best. ATC commitment is 6 years in AF, you would get picked up by the FAA before that. Could be a great idea, could be a terrible one.

I considered it also. Ended up getting selected on my second panel and I'm very glad I didn't join. I remember feeling kind of desperate when I graduated but ultimately the FAA is worth the wait. More money and more freedom. I'd recommend just being patient with the FAA unless the AF is important enough to risk never getting into the FAA. That's my opinion.

Good insight. My CTI school was only a 2 year degree. I'm not impatient just looking at all possibilities and options to see what's best.
