Background Investigation
Posted: 04-09-2012, 01:32 PM

Actually got some good news from the FAA today. Since I had an investigation done in 2007, they don't have to do another one because I didn't have a break in service since getting it. I just wish they would have told be before I spent 2 hours updating my equip info.

Do you mean a break in service from what? The military? A different federal job? Etc? I'm prior military where I held a secret clearance. Currently I hold a clearance for the job I have now. I wonder if I will have to re-do my clearance for the FAA in the coming months.

Wondering the same thing. Got a Secret clearance for ATC in the Marines, really think they'll make me do another one?

I had a federal background check when I worked with the TSA. But I am now a contractor for the FAA with Raytheon so I wonder how my background will go...

Unfortunately I'm not sure how or what background checks transfer over. I am a DOD controller and essentially transferring. The woman at security called me at work to verify that I had not break it service (not even a week) from the time that I got the prior investigation done till now. Her main concern was because I transferred from one DOD facility to another and wanted to make sure that it was like I left one place one week and started the other the next week.

I was told that no matter what department that I cam from that I still needed to redo everything again.

This is my understanding as well. I have a DOD Secret clearance (valid) and need to redo as well.

I was told the same. No breaks of service for me either.

@HEATSEEKER Who informed you of this, your HR rep or the person in charge of your security clearance?

Bear in mind that I wasn't made aware of this until the security folks got my updated equip information. It was then that they noticed I had a recent investigation. My point isn't so much that you don't have to do the equip but more to the fact that if the scenario is the same as mine they might be able to forgo the actual investigation which could save some processing time.
