Do facility managers know?
Posted: 06-01-2012, 03:44 PM

During my interview, my interviewer told me my facility. I was wondering if the facility manager (Air Traffic Manager) of that facility knows that I was picked for there or not?

Yes, they do know the employee who was tentatively selected for hire at their facility.

That's not completely true... They may know when you get your FOL but not sitting on a TOL, at least in the terminal world. Enroute manager have lists of pople with TOL's and I have found this not to be the case with terminal since your facility is always subject to change. My facility had no idea who I was or that I was even going there...and all I have is a TOL

That's why he said they know who was TENTATIVELY selected for their facility. Your interviewer wouldn't have told you if he didn't know. What's he just going to make one up?

The key is it could still change so be careful making any plans based on it. Better yet don't make any plans based on it.

I'm not disputing anything about the interviewer... Yeah they do know where you're going, it's in your paperwork... but that doesn't mean the facility you're going to knows. At that point in the hiring process you're nothing to them yet.

I was stating a fact based off the reply to his question, no the facility you're going to doesn't always know who was tentatively selected for their facility.

Well, we can conclude that they either do, or do not know if you are coming to their facility or not. My manager told me of a new hire before he even had his TOL, so you can take that however you want.

My bad, I misinterpreted the question. I was thinking he meant does the interviewing manager actually know where you are going.

As far as the facility you're slated for, it just depends. Some managers have lists of new hires, some apparently don't. I know people that got an FOL, called their facility, and the manager never heard of them. Other times it's like Mike said and they know who you are way prior.

I'm pretty sure they get a copy of your TOL.

Not to be an ass, but unless you want to be one of 'those guys' working their way to the top, you dont want the ATM to know your name when you make CPC, much less when you may or may not get an OKC date this year...

I actually called my facility about a month ago and told the ATM who I was and that I was coming there and he actually asked for my address and mailed me an orientation guide and airspace map/training material that would help to be familiar with. Was just a list of common airport identifiers used at that facility.
