What states are hiring?!
Posted: 07-03-2012, 08:20 PM

Ok so I've been told that florida is kind of like trying to win the lottery because everyone wants to go there. I'm single don't care where I go and really want to go anywhere, i'm 30 years old and this next announcment (assuming it comes out before JAN2013) is probably my last chance. does anyone know where I should apply? Open to all the enlightening info you guys have!!!

Not sure if serious, or...

People put Florida down because of the high number of facilities.

To answer who's hiring; most, if not all states. But, numbers will vary. Since you're from Cuba, Florida is probably a good choice.

Since you're 30, you NEED to start making phone calls and see if you can get an AT-manager who will see the position you're in, and perhaps put your name towards the top of the stack come panel time, so to speak.

Call someone in HR and see if they have any insight. Every state is going to hire some. It seems like everyone picks FL, TX, or CA because they have a ton of facilities including multiple centers.

Before the November '11 panel I contacted the regional managers for all 3 regions as well as facility managers for locations I was interested in. The facility managers ranged from non responsive to apologetic but unable to help, only being able to give me current staffing/needs at their respective facilities. The regional managers were much more helpful. It took some searching on directory.faa.gov (sorry I don't still have the names) but I got a lot of valuable info, especially from the Eastern Regional Manager. The east and central managers straight up told me which 2 states in their regions were in the greatest need of controllers, while the western managers allowed me to ask if 2 specific states of my choosing were hiring; which is less useful as almost every state is hiring. A bit time consuming and at times frustrating, but it paid off as I had sat through 4 panels of nothing and then got selected for a position in Michigan after the aforementioned panel. Now it's just a waiting game until I get a class date. Hope this helps you or anyone else who is tired of waiting, doesn't like the 2 state guessing game and is open to going anywhere.

HR wont tell you anything. Try and contact Regional Managers.
From what I have seen (and experienced - I just got picked up last panel), try picking states that are unpopular. Places like Alabama, Mississippi, Louisiana, and Delaware have been good choices in the past few hiring panels. These states also have had a pretty short waiting time to get to the academy. Just my 2 cents

Networking is your best friend...it will get you way farther than calling and asking which states are hiring.

I sent email's to 5 ATM's and received a reply from 2 with their number to call and chat anytime. They were happy to talk and said they would put my name out to panel. So its worth a try. Names, numbers, and emails are easy to find on Google.

Maybe you would get better results by picking up the phone and calling the District Managers instead of mass emailing them. Google? Seriously? I hear Wikipedia is the greatest source for researching topics...

try-> http://directory.faa.gov

You can find those people that are more reliable than the Fac Managers...and to throw my 1/2 cent into eraudaily's comment...Regional Managers or District Managers will provide better information.

The NATCA reps for each facility know how many their facility is taking next year. That's how I found out for a lot of facilities.

lmao, Coming from the guy that wanted to negotiate his facility and got bashed. Oh and lets not forget the guy that states the hiring panels are meeting now, lol. Your selective reading goes a long way, maybe if you read phone calls were made. People are busy and don't always want to talk to you, and i was actually emailed back with times to call when he was not busy. I was given kudos for sending an email before i called. Yes the Faa directory link you provided is good, but i didn't have that information and Google worked just as well. But if it makes you feel better ty for the link.

Anyone Looking For Redirect?

Once again keep your stupid and ignorant post to yourself, your not making yourself look any better. Im sorry your mad that i laughed at your thread linked above, but get over it. Just my 2 cents
