Fy13 pickups

alright so i understand i lot of ppl are in the same boat, waiting for FY13 to roll around. i understand the new budgets come into play with the nw FY, and the ordering of selectees for a given facility based on their TOL date. what i dont understand is, how does a facility decide when they are actually going to pick someone up? for instance, lets just say a random facility is in need of two controllers at the moment, but are out of money to pick them up. once fy13 rolls around, will the facility pick the first two on the list right away, and get them a FOL and class date? or is it not that simple?

Thanks

First thing is, I was told by my HR rep that there is not necessarily a particular order based on TOL date. They have an evaluation process but it doesn't necessarily have an order in regards to chronology. That's just what I was told. As far as the budget details, I don't know

It's not that simple...think far deeper. Let's call the facility you're talking about ABC. ABC needs two people that are budgeted for FY13, but so do hundreds of other facilities... So the ATO decides what facility needs who and when. There are a limited amount of seats for classes in OKC so they may only send one at the beginning of the FY and one later, or depending on the need it could be the end of the FY. There's so many factors.

Think even before that. They look farther in advance at staffing needs such as who is coming up on mandatory retirement age, who has put in for transfers out and in, etc... that's how they will come up with projected numbers for people to pick up at a particular facility. That's how they know how many to pick up at the panels. Now when these numbers done pan out exactly as predicted, that's when you get long waits for class dates and stuff like that. Or OKC could just be full too lol. There's a lot more to it than just give you a class date because you are next in line with a TOL.

At least that's how it was explained to me.

Don't try to understand the FAA. I've only been here for 3 years but I can tell you there isn't any logic to the hiring.

Lets be realistic. You could say this about any government job and the military included.
