do you think i have a chance?
Posted: 07-29-2012, 01:16 PM

Is there anyone out there that is like somewhat in my position that made it? First of all i have a criminal record a misdemeanor for driving with a suspended license. On top of that i had plenty of traffic tickets in the past. My dmv abstract is a booklet of past suspension. I have switched my license to out of state, for afew years and now back to ny. Now i am cleared with my tickets. I have a associate degree and a cti student, i got a qualified score on my atsat, so i wanna hear from people what are my chances. and iam 29 now.

Well hopefully you're graduating soon so you can start applying. People have been hired with prior DUI's and all kinds of different things on their records. To be honest I think your qualified score hurts you worse. There's still a possibility for you but you're going to have to network your ass off.

The FAA is no longer allowed to hire "qualified" applicants. Only well qualified.

NOWAZ, take that with a huge CHUNK of salt. Until they change passing to 85, that is not true.

Well a member of the hiring committee who actually selects new hires told me that directly. It's not some random controller telling me this.

Everyone on SM "knows" someone on the panel, and everyone has conflicting info, so until they come out with new protocol in writing, and none of this "he said, she said", my advice to NOWAZ stands.

ya i agree im Q im picked up. if you look on this site hard enough you'll find that there's always a post that says one thing and another that says the opposite and everyone on here does say they know someone on the hiring board im an rpo at the academy and i know a lot of people out here that don't know anything. my 2cents be smart look at small states and try to talk to people it's going to be hard but you might get a lucky break.

not sure about the legal issues but I can speak for the Q atsat issue, I have been selected with a Q score, yes it is harder to get selected but not imossible you just have to work a little bit harder to get selected for example i graduated may 2010 and didnt get selected until Nov 2011, this came with a lot of emails, phone calls etc... putting my name out there.
