Hardship transfers
Posted: 12-23-2008, 11:32 PM Anyone here done a hardship for your kids or know of anyone that has? What was the process like and how long did it take? Did you get the facility you wanted or did you have to settle for something else in the area you needed to move to? I'm wanting to hardship closer to my kids in Maryland and hoping I can get accepted at BWI tower.

Re: Hardship transfers
Posted: 12-24-2008, 02:21 AM had a friend at ZOA that did a hardship to LAS. took him about 4 months from the first beginning to transfer. he just went to HR at the facility and told them his situation to get things rolling. his ex-wife (works at L30) and kid were in vegas. that was plenty enough reason for the FAA to allow him to hardship.

Used to be hardships required a release from your facility and acceptance in another. (Hopefully the one you want to go to) Seeing how staffing is so bad most everywhere acceptance part should not be a major problem. |

Posted: 12-25-2008, 09:56 AM Mr. Tex,
We have a guy that is currently doing it but the only way to get out of the center is with a mutual swap. I know when he found that, it made EVERYTHING easier. Is there any chance you could find out if anyone in Baltimore wants to go down south? I would imagine if you worked out a mutual swap, you could get there inside of a month. |

Re: Hardship transfers
Posted: 12-25-2008, 10:54 AM First, there are 3 types of hardships. 1. you have to take care of a family member. 2. you need to move because one of your family members needs medical help that can't be provided where you are. 3. you have a separation from your kids.
For the third type, which sounds like the type you will be requesting, the separation from your kids must have been involuntary on your part, like if your wife left you and moved the kids to another city. If you are separated because YOU moved, then they will most likely deny it. |
