MMPI is pretty much instantaneous (although you won't know for a couple of weeks to a month) but the medical is another matter. Evidently they're all reviewed by the regional flight surgeon's office, even if the doc performing it says you're OK. That little detail ended up screwing up my actual flight medical for about a month as well...all because of a surgery that I listed, and has had absolutely no impact on my ability to fly or even more so, perform the work as a controller.

I think everyone's situation is completely different. I started out with my interview, then received my paperwork from HR to complete everything else. The doctor told me right on the spot..."Everything looks great...you're in as far as I'm concerned!" The EKG was the very first thing they did. They had a checklist and just checked things off one by one. I guess it just depends on the people conducting the physical. Also, as far as my MMPI test went...I still have no idea but I assume it went well, considering I am headed to OK. I just assumed that no news is good news, concerning the MMPI test. I also received a phone call regarding the background check. The person that conducted the background check called me directly to let me know that she just finished it. I think I got lucky, going the traditional route. I contacted the person that interviewed me (ATM local facility) with an questions that I had. She was awesome! Good luck to everyone else!

When I did my medical they did not do my ekg....i found out like 3 months later, aerospace medicine and the docs pointed fingers at each other....MAKE SURE YOU GET AN EKG DONE! it is required and I had no idea what an ekg even was.

Aerospace Medical Certification Subsystem (AMCS) Online Support

Click on the link that corresponds to the region that your facility is in. When I called Southern Region, there was a specific option on the phone menu for ATC applicants checking on medical status.

Good luck.

Here is a question (since I just spent a thousand bucks going to the LA PEPC).

From day 1 of starting your traditional route (ie your 1st interview or whatever you did 1st), how long did it take to get your ToL and FoL. Just wanting to gage for future referance (friends and co-wookers) what I should suggest... Obviously I went to a pepc so my times are:
ToL: 1day (and a grand to fly to la and stay for a few)
FoL: 8-10 weeks (supposedly)

I was first contacted by HR for ZME on 10/10. I interviewed at ZTL on 11/3, TOL 12/2. I had my MMPI, drug test, security paperwork, medical, all completed by 12/29 (could have done it earlier if the lady at the medical office hadn't lost my TOL). I had a class date on 1/24, FOL 2/25. I was told not to expect a FOL for 3-4 weeks after getting my class date because HR was a bit backed up sending PEPC invites for PUBNAT 3/4.

Keep in mind that after my interview, I was on the phone at least once a week, and probably sending e-mails twice a week to keep things moving along. You will probably get several, "you'll have your (TOL, class date, FOL) tomorrow or next week" responses. If you don't get something when promised, you call back and ask again.

In my case, the PEPC dates for KC were full by the time I replied and the next PEPC was after my 31st birthday. Going the traditional route and being persistent was the only way I got my TOL before I turned 31.

How on earth did it cost you a thousand bucks for a 1 day affair?

Exaggeration, much?

Last minute airfare? It gets damn pricey if you buy close to your travel date.

I just checked some Delta fares if I needed to travel to LAX tomorrow from Chicago. Many of the coach flights were well over $1,000 round trip.

Doesn't seem that unrealistic depending on when he got his ticket. And hotel if he stayed the night.
