Just looked it up -- it was like $500-and-change total with some of the discount airlines...for the day before. Add in a $30 cab fare (if even), and a $150/night hotel (if you need a palace), and we're still at under $700. Add in some food, and we're still under $750 -- for the day before. This guy must've flown first-class, stayed in a four-star hotel, and drank Hennessy from the sauna room before his interview. |

Re: Traditional route...
Posted: 04-27-2009, 05:32 PM It really depends on where you live/where you're coming from. Not everybody can fly on the discount carriers, Southwest and JetBlue don't fly everywhere, etc. I spent probably 500-ish, and I flew for free as an airline employee. Airfare from where I live is 400 and up.
I paid about 500ish, but I also rented a car and stayed there a few days. If I'd been able to schedule things, I'd have flown in wednesday evening and left after the PEPC was over, but that wasn't possible. |

And LOL at the firstclass/top shelf comments that followed. I did stay @ a quality Hotel tho, because it was close to the FAA place, and had a rental car. Regardless, 500$ (minimized non tourist cost) compared to 4 months, just trying to see if it was worth it. The other 500 I spent on a sweet hotel, great food, and plenty o booze was worth it regardless. |

I was invited to the LA PEPC also but chose the traditional route, here are my costs so far:
$15 co-pay for a required visit to an ophthalmologist $10 fingerprint charge from the local sheriff's department 2.5 sick days from work to for two full medical evals, the ophthalmologist visit and the visit to a psychologist See my signature for my timelines. |

Re: Traditional route...
Posted: 05-01-2009, 05:38 AM Is there a list of facilities that do the interviews. I'm pretty sure I will get terminal and there is an up/down (DAB) 10 miles from my house. Wondering if I can do the interview there. I'm thinking about doing the traditional route and busting my butt to get it done quicker than waiting for the next PEPC

I definitely fall into this catergory. My advice is that if there's a PEPC in the next 3 months that you can afford/take the time to make it to then you should go that route. Either way though, if you end up having to have further evals for medical, psych or security you're going to be delayed.
