Traditional route...
Posted: 02-24-2009, 05:52 PM

I just finished up everything from the traditional route for Indy Center and I called every week and talked to ladies in the Medical, Security, and the hr departments every Wednesday....For some reason Wednesday they answered the phones from around 1-4 pm est. It helped me because I kept asking if there was anything else I needed to do on my end and they would say nope just waiting on (who ever) to send (what ever)...at that point I would call that agency....I guess my point to this basic idea to stay on top of things is I have been waiting for a class date for like 3 months and the only thing that was left to do is an EKG...the medical department left this out of my physical....just keep calling and asking....most of all be as patient as hell..I wanted to reach through the phone and choke these people out when I found out about the ekg deal.

Ya, if you go the traditional route, definitely keep on them or you could get lost in the process.

This is the way I tell people to deal with the HR people...

If you haven't got an offer, leave em alone. You are wasting their time. They have your application, can't really do anything else and will notify you if you got selected....

After you get an offer, bug the crap out of them (I called every Wednesday) to make sure everything is getting done. I got hung up for a month because they lost some piece of paper...twice....

Pants,
You might want to look into the EKG deal, I'm going through the traditional process also and when I did my medical at the end of the session they realized they didn't have the correct color-blindness test slides so they couldn't process my medical because I couldn't do all tests in the same day. I've been waiting three weeks now for the new test slides to come in, but apparently they're on back order. Just thought you should know you may have to do the entire medical over again.

Also, would you mind PMing me the contact you have in background investigations? I received my TOL through email and the SF-87 fingerprint card took about 3 weeks to get to me, so HR suggested I mail what I'd completed at the 10 day mark into background investigations and I return the fingerprint card separately when I could get it completed. I just want to make sure they've got everything together now.

It seems that a lot of people going the traditional route have run into the same problem with the EKG. I know of a few people, myself included, that went to get our physicals and the doctor didn't do an EKG. I would suggest anybody doing this to make sure it gets done. I never got contacted from HR regarding my EKG, I called them to find out the status and was told I didn't have an EKG done so I had to go back. I lucked out that the doctor I went to realized it was his mistake and took my in right away but it is a pain.

At the physical they have a check list of things: I have heard of people not getting vision, hearing, and EKG's done. Just be proactive and make sure these things get done on the first visit so you don't have to go back...

Hi all,

I just had my medical/psych screening today and was wondering how long it takes for them to get back to you with the results. I was under the impression that they cleared or denied you right away, but the doctor did not say anything one way or the other to me and neither did the person who administered the psychological evaluation.

The psych eval is done right away and sent to okc....the medical eval is not done when your done with the doc, all the info gets sent to the aerospace medicine office for review....you can call them and find out the results or just wait about a week and call your contact.
