ASAP Application Question
Posted: 03-06-2009, 02:34 PM

Just curious if anybody has put no to overnight travel on the application and got picked up. I dont think it matters but the waiting is making me second guess everything.

Thanks for any help.

I highly doubt half the crap I said yes to will ever happen. Especially overnight travel etc. Regardless of which, you may have to do it with any other career. Just say yes and chances are, it'll never happen and it'll make you look willing to do anything.

+1 I also put yes to it to show that I am flexible. I really don't see overnight travel happening with ATC. I think that question is probably geared more towards other goverment jobs like say an Aircraft Inspector or something of the sorts.

Well, lets see...

1. You wait for an announcement to open
2. You wait a couple months to hear about the AT-SAT
3. You wait a week or so your score on the AT-SAT
4. You wait a month or so for your geo preferences
5. You wait a while for the selection panel
6. You wait a LONG WHILE to pick an OKC date
7. You wait a while for OKC to start
8. FINALLY YOURE ON THE PAYROLL and wait for your per diem!!!!

At least you are proving youre willing to wait. That way they know you arent planning to leave when you get to your facility and have a couple years to twirl your thumbs waiting to start your OJT... Remember, patience is a virtue!

I was asked to be at the academy and was asked to be there overnight (per my application). Also, I know several people that were asked to be at the PEPC and be there overnight (per their application). Although it rarely happens there are rare occasions it may happen on special circumstances.

The overnight travel question was odd to me. You're the one who's deciding where you live and work... last I heard, they don't force new facility assignments on people, just work rules.

Overnight travel could be geared towards OKC and since you might have to go more than once, they don't want to hear people bitching about why they can't go. That's how I always saw it anyway.

Based on other threads ive read about disqualifying answers on applications, saying no to anything presents a significant risk. Best advice is to be proactive and see what you can do to change that answer if possible. My best guess as to what the overnight travel is pretaining to is the travel that might be required during the steps leading up to employment (AT-SAT, PEPC, OKC, etc.). Good Luck.

When I filled out my application I put NO to temporary employment. Turns out the PUBNAT announcement IS FOR temporary employment. So after months of hearing nothing I started to panic. Everyone on the forum told me I was SOL. I called Pam in HR panicking. She didn't know for sure, so she went on a hunt for the answer and called me back. She said I would be fine, since then I've continued in the process with out issue. Point is, the application is a standard FAA application and the questions are standardized for ALL positions. A position like a safety inspector will require travel and is probably looking for a specific answer on that travel question, where as ATC really doesn't need to travel all that often so it probably doesn't even apply. I would call HR *gasp* and ask, it wont hurt anything.
