I wear glasses: Go Terminal or En Route?
Posted: 03-29-2009, 07:03 PM I wear a pretty strong prescription for nearsightedness. I am wondering if I should shoot for en route facilities because of this, or should I try for both (which is what I currently selected)....
My concern is that I will have this doomsday scenario where I get picked for a terminal facility and then here comes medical and says "oh we're so sorry, your eyes are a no-go, perhaps apply for an en route facility, go back to go and do not collect 200 dollars" |

Re: I wear glasses: Go Terminal or En Route?
Posted: 03-29-2009, 07:26 PM u know the medical requirements are the same for both type of facilities. 20-20 corrected.
of course, in a tower you need to see just a little bit better than in a radar room where u sit right in front of the scope. it might officially be better for you to see a radar scope than to see the infinite amount of things you could wish to look at in a tower. but, still the requirement remains the same. 20-20 corrected. |

Why would you turn in your notice before your eye exam? You'll take the eye exam well before you get an Academy date.

Re: I wear glasses: Go Terminal or En Route?
Posted: 03-30-2009, 01:12 PM Go to the "Ask the Doctor" Section and ask Dr. Orsak. But I'd say that if
you are 20/20 corrected then it doesn't matter, the medical requirements are the same for any option in the FAA. Towers use radar and binoculars, radar uses...radar. If you can read with your glasses at 15" to 30" and see clearly beyond then you should realistically be fine in either option. That's my .02?? but I'm no flight surgeon. |
