Facility Pay differences
Posted: 02-17-2009, 04:36 PM

Hi All,

I was wondering if anyone knows what determines your pay at each facility. For instance, the range for BED is 59k-82k for the final pay scale, which isn't too bad, especially now. But, I wasn't sure how they figure out what pay you will make within that range, if it was maybe based on performance or something. Thanks.

based on years in the agency, and to a degree performance. when u first check out u will be at the bottom. every year your eligible for a raise within that range. if u meet the requirements, based on performance and likability, u will get a raise.

Say you are a good controller and have a couple friends on the job but aren't much of an ass kisser. How would that work out in the FAA? Would you max out or would you need to **** the Boss?

**** the boss.... Always the surefire way to a raise or promotion. Then again I cant claim to have any moral redeeming values so I would just do it for fun.

currently at ZFW it "appears" that there is in fact a budget and a curve for the awarding of merit raises; approx 1/3 of the workforce got nothing, 1/3 got the .6%, and 1/3 got the "full" 1.6%. the general raise announced every year for all federal employees and SS beneficiaries as well as locality pay is given to all. to get the full 1.6 you have to do a lot, be an instructor, not be involved in an error, be a CIC, volunteer for extraneous duties, etc.

the base pay for each facility is based on traffic; each facility is assigned a rating from AT5 (I think thats the bottom) to AT13. currently no AT13's in system; 13 was created for growth possibility. currently the busiest centers and tracons are AT12's. find a forum with current atc trainees on it; they all carry around the printout of pay scales because that way they know when and how much their certification increases are. for instance, I think at ZFW as soon as you get here from the academy you get bumped to about 35k base salary; upon completion of first 2 d-sides they get another 10k; then it varies with the number of sectors in your area. i think the remaining raises come upon completion of 50% of positions, 75%, and 100%. each d-side and r-side counts as a position, so if your area has 6 sectors-12 positions, 50% would come after you were finished with all d-sides, 75% after 1st 3 r-sides, last raise upon completion of r-side training.
