Re: Denver Center vs Denver TRACON vs Denver Tower
Posted: 05-06-2009, 05:13 PM excellent point ATCtower. i still don't think it justifies the 12 compared to D01's 11.
but your right. i would hate to be working 1/4SM +SN VV001 and trying to get people to de-ice and to the runways expeditiously. |

Re: Denver Center vs Denver TRACON vs Denver Tower
Posted: 05-07-2009, 12:06 PM I took a tour of DEN ATCT recently and was amazed. The airport is designed to just swallow airplanes. Is the Level 12 justified? Why would the 5th busiest airport in the U.S. not be a Level 12. But, I must say that D01 does a hell of job sequencing inbound and outbound traffic, so my hat is off to those guys, and they deserve the Level 12 IMHO. Don't know too much about Denver Center so I can't say much there.
Interesting info, some airports go on a ground delay and ground hold when they reach 90 and 115 operations per hour. DEN won't go on a ground delay and ground hold until they reach 120 and 150 operations per hour, respectively, and that is usually only due to weather. I believe that is a great testament to the design of the airport, and the controllers that work there. I'm very excited to start working there after the summer and consider myself lucky to be assigned there. |

Whats worse the ARTCC is a level 10. ZDV feed Tracon. I am pissed I would have much rather gone to the tower than to the ARTCC. More money less work. The Tracon right now is way under staffed, I wouldn't recommend going there. The washout rate is over 50 percent at the Tracon.

Re: Denver Center vs Denver TRACON vs Denver Tower
Posted: 06-18-2009, 06:41 PM I just had my interview at ZDV and have to say it seems like a good place with good people. The HR manager that interviewed me was great, the people I encountered were great, the whole place just seems pretty good. Hopefully everything goes smoothly and I will be there shortly.

Re: Denver Center vs Denver TRACON vs Denver Tower
Posted: 08-27-2009, 01:09 PM I'm in the same boat and would agree with the majority of the comments so far. I'd like the tower as my first choice, followed by the tracon and then the center. I have a feeling unless I get lucky I won't be getting the tower, so I'm trying to get myself prepared for the TRACON. I know that they have a bad rep for high washout, but I'm willing to put the work in and am looking forward to getting in the field.

Re: Denver Center vs Denver TRACON vs Denver Tower
Posted: 08-30-2009, 07:24 PM I also put in for colorado on my geopref... i imagine my score will either put me in center or tracon.
i keep hearing about the high washout in tracon, and i'm a little scared... is there anyway to go about not working there? |
