Re: Radar Video of F16 close call with GA aircraft
Posted: 05-08-2009, 07:14 PM MOA's are not restricted airspaces so VFR can fly through them if they want. We let them know they are entering a MOA but normally they don't care. We have had the A-10's "escort" VFR traffic before
cracks me up everytime. |

With all due respect, you are obviously not a pilot. The military guys love to screw with GA pilots; often completely disregarding safety.

Re: Radar Video of F16 close call with GA aircraft
Posted: 05-15-2009, 02:26 PM The problem is that the LJ was cruising along under flight following and VFR. When the F16 comes up behind him, his TCAS goes off, and tells him to climb.
Pilots are allowed to do whatever it takes to fix the RA. In this case, he climbed into Class A airspace. Regardless, now, he has to file a complaint, because otherwise he can be violated for climbing into the Class A airspace. All of the MOA's around Phoenix are only up to 14,000. So by this guy being up at 17,000, he's above all of the MOA's, and they can't fault him for flying over/near a MOA. However, the Military pilot can be spanked for operating within 100 feet of a VFR aircraft. It's unsafe and stupid of the pilot. I would welcome a pilot to call me on frequency and play with me, if I know what he was doing, but for one to screw around with pilots like that, and knowingly cause the lear to climb 3k /min, that's a little different. The bottom line is that these guys had to complain, or they could be the ones that were on the line for violating the Class A airspace. |

Re: Radar Video of F16 close call with GA aircraft
Posted: 05-30-2009, 12:53 PM I work at the military facility that the f16's are from and our airspace is joined to the GLADDEN and BAGDAD MOAS the LJ entered. The two moas are from the 7000 agl up to FL280 and 330 we advise these aircraft that the moas are active WELL before they enter the airspace. They make the decision to enter a MILITARY OPERATION AREA, knowing there are fighter aircraft conducting manuevers. they put themselves and the TRAINING fighter pilots at risk when they enter these areas. i would ride there butt too if they came into airspace delegated for the purpose of military activity, even if it is at there own risk.
