3-4 bedroom house in a nice area with good schools range from about 275K-400+K. Property tax from 600-900 a month and most have homeowners association fees around 150 a month.

As far as deducting property tax, yes it does help out a little with income tax but it is like taking 3 steps back and then one forward. Not much progress.

No question cost of living is high but worth it to live around Chicago in my opinion.
