Re: Private tower contact info
Posted: 02-22-2010, 10:58 PM I didnt realize I would open up such a can of worms
![]() As far as the links school goes... I toured the school on Friday. Nice facility, great instructors, and the admissions rep has been very helpful. I also was allowed to visit the tower and speak with the instructors and manager; very helpful and knowledgeable individuals. As far as the first graduating class is concerned, none have been picked up by the FAA. However, there is very good communication with the students and staff about the status of the graduates and who is being contacted. I believe the first class graduated in November, so give them a little time. Being that the FAA is a entity of the federal government and from first hand experience, nothing goes quickly and judge the schools fruits after these November graduates have had 9-12 months to go through the FAA's hiring process. Being a pilot and understanding the process first hand of testing with the FAA for certificates and ratings, I find that the school is legit if they produce students who become certificated with a CTO. There is a written then oral, and practical test with an FAA examiner. If you pass to the FAA standards, you have earned a certificate. If there is one thing to question regarding this school it is why they do not provide 6 months of CTO experience to allow you to apply with the contractors per part 65 (I believe its part 65). Undoubtedly, $42k is a lot to spend, if I can get the 6 months experience in the tower, I will most likely enroll...better than waiting to be hired as an OTS (pubnat 7 here, I dont think I even made it to the panels). If someone can give a factual reason that this school is not legitimate, than please let myself, and everyone else know cause I do not want to be $42k in the hole with nothing to show for it. |

2nd...it seems like dogging but it's more of just advice to be skeptical. i've been in the ATC world for a few years and been a controller in the military, contract tower, and FAA. i've seen the dynamics of each. your CTO is being promised, which you will get. the job that your being led to believe you will get because of it, is NOT promised. just some friendly heads up is all it is. be skeptical and if you still want to pursue that route then by all means pursue it. i hope the best. all i'm saying (and probably rossta too) is that the promises far outweigh the reality..until we are proven wrong. 3rd...it's BASIS, not BASES. |
