contract tower salary question
Posted: 03-03-2009, 02:09 AM

Just want to get an idea on what I can expect for pay from a contract tower job regaurdless of company. I currently have a CTO, and thinking about transitioning to contract tower. So the main question I guess is, What can i look forward to starting out, once i qualify on all positions, and what is the "cap-out"? I know it probably differs for each facility and company, but a broad, estimated number will do. Anyone?

RVA makes a little more than the others, but some of their facilities aren't full time. 37 hours per week. i never worked for RVA, that's just what i heard from others that have.

Hours/week varies from tower to tower, but 37 hours/week is considered full time employment. The draw back is at 37 hr/wk you don't qualify for sunday pay.

When I worked at Midwest, I made $25/hr, plus the $3 something they tacked on for the insurance and 401K. I have heard that some only do 35 or 37 hrs per week, but the tower I worked at was 40 hours, and there was occasional overtime.

The contract between Midwest and the FAA expires this fall; the manager at that tower was under the impression that the pay was going to increase to match the Lockheed FSS contract. I went back into the FAA, so I don't know the status of that rumor, but contract tower controllers currently make significantly less money per hour than Lockheed FSS employees.
