New to the Forum but Not ATC
Posted: 08-25-2009, 08:30 PM

My name is Blu and I am currently stationed at Camp Pendleton. I plan on joining the civilian sector after my up coming deployment to Afghanistan (9 yrs ATC Experience) and I have a few questions for this group. As far as contract towers Ive been looking in Glacier Park Montana, Jackson Wy, Idaho Falls, Eagle CO.

FAA and DOD pretty much any were west of the rockies. Can anyone fill me in on these Facilities. I see opening all the time so I wonder why that is. Is it the traffic, cost of living, the people or what that can't seem to keep these places filled? Im pretty much a Tower Controller but hace GCA experience. Who enploys Carson City NV?

I'm a certified fly fishing and white water guide out of colorado so I'd like to work somewhere where I could do some guiding in my off time. Colorado would be ideal as well as Montana and Nevada (Mainly Reno Carson City). How are the facilities in these areas? Im sure I'll have some more questions as time goes on but I just wanted to put my name out there and say Hi.
Thanks in advance.

I've head that Eagle is tough to staff because the cost of living is out of sight. Lots of turnover. That's about all I've got.

Blu,
I know Serco handles the majority of Towers on the West coast. I've been interviewed by them once for a job in Oxnard, Ca. It seems like it's just a matter of them pulling up your resume when they start selecting. I just keep reapplying each time a notice pops at the locations I'm hoping to get. Try, try and try again.
