Contract Towers as employer's
Posted: 10-10-2009, 09:00 PM Are there any companies that stand out as better employer's than others? The pay from what I read is all pretty much the same isn't it? And finally, who are the "Big 3" so to speak? It looks like Midwest and Serco but not sure who else has a big share or how to find out. Thanks

Posted: 10-11-2009, 07:04 AM The Big 3 are Midwest, Serco and RVA. RVA seems to have more towers than the other two combined. There is also WCG and DSI. I have applied at them all. I love working for Serco, to a point that I have turned down jobs at other places.

Posted: 10-12-2009, 12:36 AM Ok, thanks. Is pay/benefits all pretty much the same among all 3? I'm suprised their websites didn't offer more details. Anyone have a list of what towers each company handles, all I could find was one large FCT list.

Posted: 10-12-2009, 07:25 AM I can tell you that Serco is mostly in the West and Alaska. RVA has the Southeast, Midwest ATC has the Midwest and Northeast. Serco is the only one that I know of that lists openings and pay amounts for those positions. A lot of things may change after Feb 2010. I hear they are dividing up the Southeast.

Re: Contract Towers as employer's
Posted: 10-16-2009, 08:45 AM real quick and maybe this is the wrong place to ask but... for those of you actually at contract towers how is the pay? i know the pay is the same at every tower but is it enough? basically if i relocate my family of 3 and take a job at a contract tower is the pay enough to live on? thanks

Re: Contract Towers as employer's
Posted: 10-16-2009, 02:01 PM Its plenty to live on, but also depends how much debt and bills you have. But if you have hardly any debt your fine. Some towers will offer a bonus upon rating, nothing to crazy but some extra spending cash. The biggest struggle is when you relocate with deposits, and moving costs. And the more remote the place, the higher the pay.

Re: Contract Towers as employer's
Posted: 11-01-2009, 12:50 AM Contract is hourly and varies by where you live from what it looks like. I think Serco has best benefits out of all other contract towers out there. Doesn't stand up to FAA but they are good. 4 10hr shift is what most of them seem to be for serco as well. I think with night differential pay, sunday pay, holidays, a few overtime shifts etc i'm pulling in 60k/yr before taxes.
