question about serco hiring process
Posted: 12-06-2009, 11:47 AM Anybody out there know the hiring process with Serco? If the ATM of a facility calls you and sets up a phone interview to last about an hour or so promising? Is it like the FAA, you get selected for an interview and your pretty much in? Am I still in competition with somee people or what? Thanks for the help!

Re: question about serco hiring process
Posted: 12-06-2009, 12:39 PM The ATMs have quite a bit of say in who they hire... The hiring manager will send the local ATM about 5-6 resumes that they like. The ATM will pick their top three in order that they like and send it back. The hiring manager(Jerry) will usually hire the number one pick that the local manager liked unless something comes up. Then they go down the list.
If the local manager called you then most likely your resume is one of the ones that Jerry sent to that tower and the ATM is considering. The manager is probably undecided between you and someone else and just wanted to get a feel for both of you and decide who they want to go with. A phone interview in no way guarantees you a job. Its not like the FAA process... but it shows that the ATM is interested and that you probably have a really good chance. Get the ATM to like you and you're golden, haha. |

Re: question about serco hiring process
Posted: 12-06-2009, 07:00 PM Good luck. I have been trying to get on Serco in the Sacramento Area for over a yr. Everytime a position comes up I apply but nothing. Even visited the one of the towers here and met the Tower Chief. No go as of yet.

Are you only applying for SAC are are you trying everywhere? I would think that you would need a lot of experience in your background to work somewhere as busy as Sacramento exec. You might have a lot. I have read that it should not take long if your willing to go anywhere, but I am kind of sceptical that it might take a while to actually land a contract job.

Re: question about serco hiring process
Posted: 12-07-2009, 05:44 PM When I went for a tour it was not busy at all. I can't say that I am willing to go anywhere and it might be that the reason I am not getting a look is because people who are already in are transferring here for the positions.

Re: question about serco hiring process
Posted: 12-07-2009, 06:34 PM It might not be that busy. I think I was confusing SAC with the busy one in Arizona. Don't ask me why tho. I tried getting into a tower in Atlanta. All the towers in the surrounding area are full and they won't budge. I have a house down there to which would be perfect. I guess I am willing to go anywhere now. Serco seems to be the most responsive to me. I have gotten a few calls with no job, but in the top few being considered. That is more than I can say for RVA and Midwest. It seems someone could wait years for a specific tower to have an opening, but I'm new to all this learning as I go.

Re: question about serco hiring process
Posted: 12-07-2009, 08:34 PM If you are waiting on a specific tower it may be a while. If it is fully staffed right now then you are literally waiting on 1 of the 5ish controllers to quit.

Re: question about serco hiring process
Posted: 12-07-2009, 10:30 PM I myself am not looking for any specific tower and am willing to work anywhere. I am taking your advice polo and applying for FAA this week but what about contract towers like serco or for contract towers period? Is 6 months out too far out for contract towers to apply for their job posts?

Re: question about serco hiring process
Posted: 12-08-2009, 09:44 PM yeah, way too early... Id wait until about a month prior to your terminal leave to apply for a FCT. You can work at a FCT while on terminal leave, just let them know the date you are able to actually start working. It will take you about 3 weeks for the hiring process... doing the security check, medical, etc.
